The Cheetahs

They are the stars of the Centre!
Some were born and hand-reared at the centre, others came from breeding facilities located in South Africa. If you wish to see more of a specific cheetah, just click on one of the pictures below to access a personal photo gallery.

Raphael

  • ‚ÄčGender: Male
  • Born on 20 March 2014 and hand-reared at the Dell Cheetah Centre
  • Parents: Jasmine and Trigger
  • Siblings: Duke and Keagan
  • Role: Ambassador cheetah

Raphael was born at the Dell Cheetah Centre in March 2014 and was hand-reared by Estelle and Hardus. He is a gentle young ambassador to the cheetah species, entertaining groups of visitors at the Centre and at our partner lodge SunWa River Lodge (www.sunwa.co.za).

Shaka

  • Gender: Male
  • Born on 27 November 2012 and hand-reared at Buffalo Ranch Bloemfontein
  • Joined the DCC in October 2013
  • Role: Breeding male

Shaka was born in November 2012 at Buffalo Ranch Bloemfontein and joined our Centre when he was 11 months old, where he became a young ambassador to the cheetah species. He is now retired from his ambassador role and he will breed with some of our females.

Jakes

  • Gender: Male
  • Born in captivity
  • Joined the DCC in October 2014
  • Role: Breeding male

Jakes was donated to the centre by Dr. Van Der Westhuizen from Bothaville in October 2014. Jakes is a very handsome cheetah, but he was not hand-reared and is not very fond of humans, especially men. Therefore, he is only suitable for breeding purposes.

Jade

  • Gender: Female
  • Born on 4 June 2011 and hand-reared at the Dell Cheetah Centre
  • Parents: Tessa and Caine
  • Siblings: Tippie and Caine Junior

Jade is quite a character as she only likes women! She was born at the Dell Cheetah Centre in June 2011 and was hand-reared by Estelle, which whom she developped a very stong bond. Jade unfortunately has a genetic disorder that affects her front legs and therefore, she will not breed.

Jody

  • Gender: Female
  • Born in captivity
  • Joined the DCC in October 2014
  • Role: Breeding female

Jody was donated together with Jakes by Dr. Van Der Westhuizen from Bothaville in October 2014. It took her very long to adapt to her new enviroment but she eventually settled in. She will be uses for breeding purposes when she is ready.
